Arthur Johnson was born in 1928 and was a graduate of the Kentucky School for the Blind He lived most of his 81 years in the Harlan County, Kentucky community of Cumberland where he worked as a piano tuner, writer, and historian He was an avid player of dulcimer, harmonica, guitar, and "just about anything with strings" He was president of the local chapter of AARP, member of Tri-City Chamber of Commerce, fifty year member and past president of the Lions Club, Master of Ceremonies for the Kingdom Come Swappin' Meetin' in Cumberland; and a member of the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church
