Members of Mariachi Mi Mexico, all originally from Mexico, were based variously in Lexington, Kentucky and Atlanta, Georgia at the time of their Berea performances They were asked to represent their ancestral music at the 2006 Celebration of Traditional Music in recognition of the fact that Madison County, Kentucky has the largest population of Mexican immigrants in the Appalachian region of Kentucky They are very much a family band as all the men are brothers, all the women are sisters, and all are cousins to each other Band members at the time included Marcos Velasquez - vihuela, Oscar Velasquez - guitarrn, Maria Velasquez - Violin, Veronica Velasquez - violin, Eric Velasquez - Trumpet
