Chappel Wallin was born [9/18/1889] into a family of traditional ballad singers in Madison County, North Carolina Chappel's brother, Cas and other family members in North Carolina became particularly well known as the result of the folk music revival of the 1960s Chappel and another brother, Jeter became itinerate shape-note Singing School teachers Their success in this work led to their traveling widely The result was that eventually they both settled in Pulaski County, Kentucky where they married and raised families
