Roscoe Holcomb (1912-1981) from Daisy (Perry County) Kentucky, was a farmer, coal miner and a multi-instrumentalist best known for his banjo and guitar playing and his falsetto style singing Folklorist John Cohen described Holcomb's sound as "Ancient" and "Avant-garde" and also coined the phrase "High Lonesome Sound" to describe Holcomb's style
